ISO 14001 Certified

ISO 14001 Certified

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized environmental management system (EMS) standard that provides a structured approach for organizations to continuously improve their environmental performance. The standard offers a framework for businesses to address specific environmental challenges like climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss. ISO 14001:2015 certification shows that an organization has implemented a robust, compliant EMS.

Keats Manufacturing is ISO 14001:2015 certified, demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability through processes that reduce manufacturing waste and save energy. We reduce metal waste through efficient services like fourslide stamping and custom tool and die manufacturing, which optimize raw material usage. Our facilities also utilize resource-conserving features, such as LED lights and waterless urinals.

LED Lights in Every Facility

LED Lights in Every Facility

Light-emitting diodes (LED) are the most energy-efficient lighting technology. LED lights are more durable, last longer, and provide similar or better light quality compared to other lighting types, such as CFL and incandescent. With Keats’ commitment to sustainable practices, we use LED lights in all our manufacturing facilities.

How LED Lights Work

Compared to other common lighting types, like incandescent and CFL, LED lights differ greatly in the following ways:

  • Light source. About the size of a speck of pepper, an LED can emit light in various colors, such as blue, green, and red. Combining these colors creates white light.
  • Direction. LEDs produce light in a certain direction, ideal for task lighting and recessed downlights. Other types of lighting may require diffusers, reflectors, and other fixtures that trap some of the light, making them less efficient.
  • Heat emittance. LED lighting produces very little heat, whereas CFLs and incandescent bulbs release 80-90% of their energy as heat.
  • Longevity. Typically, quality LEDs last much longer, up to 30 times longer than incandescent lights.

Environmental Benefits

LED lighting offers numerous environmental benefits over other lighting types:

  • Energy efficiency. LEDs are up to 80% more efficient than other lighting types and draw less power, reducing demand on power plants and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Non-toxic. LED lights are free from toxic elements, unlike other lighting options. For example, fluorescent lights contain harmful chemicals like mercury that require special handling for disposal to prevent environmental contamination. Choosing LEDs is more eco-friendly and eliminates the costs associated with disposing of lights containing toxic chemicals.
  • Reduces the total number of lights needed. The light distribution quality of LEDs is better than other lighting types because they can focus the light where it’s needed rather than distributing light in all directions. Thus, LEDs reduce initial purchasing costs and lifetime energy consumption by requiring fewer lights to achieve the same brightness level as traditional lighting.
  • Service life. LED lights last longer than other light types, reducing bulb replacements and the resources necessary to manufacture, package, and transport them.

Waterless Urinals

Waterless Urinals

Waterless urinals are an innovative way for facilities to reduce water consumption and maintenance costs while improving hygiene. Rather than using water to flush the bowl, waterless urinals are touch-free fixtures featuring specially coated bowls and cartridges that eliminate odors.

As an ISO 14001-certified organization, Keats Manufacturing implements waterless urinals in all our facilities to reduce our environmental impact and conserve water.

How Waterless Urinals Work

Also called no-flush urinals, waterless urinals use gravity and specially designed bowl surfaces to funnel urine into the sewage system. A cartridge or several membranes just below the bowl use a barrier liquid—usually a biodegradable oil—to prevent odors from escaping.

Environmental Benefits

Compared to traditional urinals, waterless urinals implemented at scale offer the following environmental benefits:

  • Water conservation. Traditional urinals typically use up to 3 gallons of water per flush. Over time, waterless urinals save a significant amount of potable water that could be used elsewhere. Saving water also maintains water levels in aquifers, rivers, and other natural sources.
  • Energy savings. Saving water reduces energy costs associated with water treatment, delivery, and pumping.
  • Reduced wastewater. No-flush urinals decrease the amount of wastewater that needs treatment.
  • Smaller carbon footprint. Facilities that save water and reduce their associated energy costs also shrink their overall carbon footprint.
  • Decreased chemical usage. With less wastewater to treat, wastewater treatment facilities don’t need to introduce as many chemicals into the water system.
  • Landfill waste reduction. Waterless urinals eliminate the plastic screens required in traditional urinals. These plastic screens are usually disposed of in landfills, where they can take hundreds of years to decompose.
